My autistic son loves trains and he absolutely loves the Model Railroad Museum. We get there when it opens and leave when they close. 4000 sq ft of Model trains and very well laid out.
Total fun. Spent two hours looking and playing with the trains. Concession stand is even nice and reasonably priced.
This place entertained the kids no problem for 2 hours (ages 4 to 9). They had as much fun in the interactive section where you push buttons to start the trains as they did upstairs where the detailed (and I mean very detailed) model of the western PA landscape is located. This is a great way to spend an afternoon with the family!
Magical experience and the people that run the show are very knowledgeable. As an enthusiast of all things miniature, I was thrilled by the expansive 4000 square foot space that displayed a historical railroad from Pennsylvania to Maryland. Some of the buildings were a little bit plain, but that is truly the only comment for improvement.
Wonderful miniature world traces the Baltimore and Ohio RR from Pittsburgh to Cumberland MD circa 1953. NOT handicapped accessible. Track is built at about 4 1/2 feet off the ground so grown ups can look through it without bending over too far. Viewing platforms for kids. Kids will want to go through much faster than adults, who will want to savor all the wonderful details of the modeller's art.
